Design Team Structure

The Pitch

As a company grows, the need for a more streamlined and scalable design team grows. I think we all know this now in the design realm,
but some folks need convincing to get into this frame of mind. The presentation above is the original pitch I gave in order to start the team
into thinking about the bigger picture and future of design at Workiva. Where are we going? What do we lack currently?
Where do we all personally want to go? All of these questions are important to ask as a team and to our leadership.
And I took initiative into kicking off those questions.

Mind Map: Design Org Structure

This fun chart is a mind-mapping exercise I created to brainstorm what a design organization within
Workiva could look like. It’s an expansion and visual representation of what I originally began to pitch in the presentation above,
but with some variances. This structure no longer only has two different branches, but multiple teams based on their expertise.

Overall, I love thinking of the bigger picture and future of design within an organization. Specifically, design scalability
within a company. I personally feel it’s crucial for a business to take design seriously in order to bring better
strategic thinking, and success on. There may be some flaws, but I felt it important
to represent in my portfolio to show how I’m always thinking forward.
